Creating your pages - Learning HTML If you don't have the time to learn HTML, you can use any of the popular WYSIWYG ("What You See Is What You Get") Web page creation programs such as Microsoft FrontPage*, Netscape Composer, Macromedia Dreamweaver. You can also create pages easily by creating them in Microsoft Word and then saving them by going to file-->save as web page. By using WYSIWYG software, you can create Web pages without learning HTML. However, WYSIWYG's are often limited in their functionality and are usually not as efficient as coding HTML "by hand." They are, however, extremely useful for novices. Important: *FrontPage extensions are not supported when using your personal web space as of this time. |

Publishing (Uploading) your site: Using FTP software, connect to ftp.comporium.net but not via an Anonymous login. Enter the Username and Password you are currently using for your own account. When FTP makes the connection to the server, you will be placed in your top-level folder. There will already be one or more sub folders shown on the Remote host side, such as WORKSPACE. One of these folders will be WWW. Change to that folder (most simply by double-clicking on the WWW folder name). Important: Once this is completed you can upload your pages by selecting them from Local (your computer) and clicking the arrow that points to the Remote side. (Remember that your main page must be named index.html. This must be the name of your start page in order for your personal web site to work.) Copy all relevant files from your system to your WWW folder. (This would include all of your HTML files, as well as any graphics or other files that are referenced within those HTML files.) Be sure to copy all HTML files in ASCII mode! You can now access these files across the Net using any WWW browser. |
